About Us

We recognize the unique talents and needs of every child, and strive to foster the multiple intelligences of each young artist. Our studio supports the STEAM ( Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics ) educational initiative which is designed to increase student understanding through an integrated approach to core subject education. Using reflective pedagogical documentation, we are constantly re-­envisioning how we teach so that we and our children collaborate as co-­constructors of our learning. We believes that individual curiosity and interest should be the driving force behind any educational undertaking. Using art and creative expression as one of the children’s languages, we ensures that all the programs are encourage children to reach their full potential as independent and confident individuals.

Maggie Chow -­ Founder of Six Principles fine art studio, Artist, Art Educator

After studying at Emily Carr University Maggie focused on her work in Early Childhood Education. She is an advocate and student of the Reggio Emilia approach. In 1996 she founded her educational arts organization: Six Principles Fine Arts Studio. Maggie leads her staff and students towards building meaningful connections between cultural experiences, perceptions and observations of the world around them. She has taught in private schools, public schools and community centers. She is currently works as an atelierista at mem7iman Child Development Centre for shishalh First Nation Education Department. Maggie is currently a member of National Art Education Association and the 2008 Harvard University Project Zero participant. Along with her husband, daughter and dog, she lives in the Sunshine Coast where she continues her extensive research and teaching practices from her studio.

Brittany Liska -­ Ecoliteracy Specialist, Program Assistant, Early Childhood Educator

Brittany is a certified teacher, gardener, and dedicated environmentalist. Her passion for teaching languages and eco- literacies has led her to work in a variety of educational settings across the Canada, and Latin America. Known as the “garden lady” by her students, Brittany has converted many youngsters into budding horticulturalists by showing them how magic the garden can be Brittany received the Chapman Award for her work developing sustainable gardening programs for schools and community centers in East Vancouver. She is currently an Early Childhood Educator at mem7iman Child Development Centre. She is also the co-­founder of 13 Moon Designs, an organization focused on sustainable agriculture consultation and education. Lee Fodi -­ Creative Writing Instructor & Author

Lee, or as his students fondly refer to him “Mr. Wiz,” is a well known Canadian author and illustrator. His published works, which include the The Chronicles of Kendra Kandle star series, are brought to life by his vivid illustrations and playful characters. Lee has always had a knack for storytelling, and has been writing and illustrating tales about magic, monsters, and mystery for as long as he can remember. His work has inspired thousands of students across Canada, the United States, England, and Korea. He has been a seasonal instructor with Six Principles since 2011. David Brear -­ LEGO Robotics Education Consultant

David, know by his students as the “LEGO guy,” is a retired teacher who spent over 30 years working in both elementary, secondary and university settings. For the last 16 years, he has devoted himself to the school of LEGO. A fun-­loving child at heart, David values the way Lego education promotes playful inquiry and creativity. He uses LEGO Robotics to get his students excited about science, math and engineering, while engaging them in real-­life problem solving and teamwork.
